U.S. Department of
Commerce Assistant Secretary Sandy Baruah and Congressman John Mica
recently joined County Chair Frank Bruno and other members of the
Volusia County Council in celebrating the start of construction of a
manufacturing facility for California-based BBK Performance Products.
The
62,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is being constructed at DeLand
Crossings Industrial Park at the intersection of I-4 and S.R. 44, east
of DeLand. Brian and Ken Murphy, the co-founders of BBK, are investing
more than $6 million in the state-of-art production facility that is
expect to be completed by the end of this year.
The Murphy brothers
founded BBK in 1988, and established the company’s headquarters in
Corona, Calif. The company manufactures manifolds, fuel-system
components and other high performance auto parts and accessories.
The DeLand Crossings
location is the company’s first major east coast expansion. The company
expects to hire up to 40 high-skilled positions including CNC operators,
CNC mechanics and machinists.
BBK is the second
manufacturer to break ground at DeLand Crossings. Intellitec Products
broke ground on its 64,000-square-foot facility in December. Intellitec
is a division of the NSI Group based in Huntington Woods, Michigan.
“BBK and NSI are
examples of more than three years of efforts and negotiations by the
county in recruiting these outstanding companies that will add greatly
to the community’s cluster of automotive component manufacturers,” said
Phil Ehlinger, business recruitment manager for the Volusia County
Department of Economic Development. “The two companies represent more
than $12 million in new capital investments and when in full operation
will account for an estimated 130 fulltime workers with annual payrolls
in excess of $5.2 million.”
