Without question, the company is a heavy hitter
in the rough-and-tumble world of retailing, but there’s
more. According to the company, it is the world's second-
largest supplier of reading glasses, with 30 percent
of the U.S. market. It is the world's largest supplier
of polarized sunglasses and the world's largest
manufacturer of retail displays of sunglasses. The
organization distributes its products in 69 countries
and supplies 80,000 retailers worldwide. It has distribution centers
and sales offices around the world with
a world wide work force of nearly 1,000.
“It’s been a very gratifying journey,” said
company President Mark Ascik,
who began with the organization
in the 1970s as a sales representative. “We are
committed to providing the consumer with the best
value, and providing retailers with exciting products
that drive sales. This is a commitment that has
served us and our customers well, and it has allowed
us to grow and offer more products and services.”
After getting its foothold in various markets, the
company in 1989 acquired Royal Optical, a California
company, and Panama Jack Eyewear. In 2005, it
merged with Riviera Trading Company. At that
point, the StyleMark name was adopted. In 2007,StyleMark acquired Polaroid’s Eyewear Division. Later that
year, the company merged with Fullerton, Calif.
based Motive Eyewear.
The company’s headquarters is in the Ormond
Beach Business Park. The organization occupies a
285,000-square-foot complex and is adding 55,000
square feet at the Mason Avenue Industrial Park in
Daytona Beach. Plans to add 150 employees will
give StyleMark a local workforce of 500.
“We have begun to merge the warehouse and distribution
functions of Motive (California) with our
operation here,” said Steve Ascik, senior vice president/
purchasing at StyleMark. “The result is that we
will have the majority of our U.S. distribution operation
here, and a smaller distribution center in California.
To do this, we have moved our display manufacturing
division from its current location to the
location on Mason Avenue at Bill France Boulevard.
The space formerly occupied here by display production will
be used for the expanded product distribution,”
which includes operations relocated from California.
“We are commencing operations at the new
display facility now and will incorporate the additional
product and distribution from California to
Ormond Beach,” said Steve Ascik.
