BUSINESS SEMINAR OFFERED IN SPANISH – Service Corps Of
Retired Executives (SCORE) will offer a “how to start your own business”
seminar. The session is November 16 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Deltona

Spanish, will include topics, questions and commentary on subjects for

GROWTH MANAGEMENT SEMINAR – The Volusia County
Association for Responsible Development (VCARD) will present an
educational program called “What lies ahead with Florida’s growth
management?” State Representative Randy Johnson, District 41, Chairman
of the Growth Management Committee for the Florida House, will explain
growth management legislation that will be considered by the 2006
Legislature including provisions to repair “glitches” in the 2005 Growth
Management Bill. The session will be Wednesday, November 16, from 11
a.m. - 1 p.m. at sunset Harbor Yacht Club, 861 Ballough Road, Daytona
Beach. The $20 cost includes lunch. Reservations must be made by

TOURISM SHOWCASE TO FEATURE CVB’S MARKETING PLAN –
Stanley Geberer of Fishkind & Associates, Orlando, will be the keynote
speaker at the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau’s
Tourism Showcase 2006. The program is scheduled Tuesday from 3 - 5 p.m.
at The Shores Resort & Spa, 2637 South Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach
Shores. The event will feature the CVB’s 2005/2006 marketing plan and a
preview of the group’s new advertising campaign. The keynote address
will focus on tourism and hospitality trends affecting Central Florida.

SEMINAR TO COVER TECHNIQUES FOR FINDING, HIRING THE RIGHT
PERSON -- The Workforce Development Board Center for Business
Excellence and its One-Stop Career System will offer a seminar that will
cover the latest interviewing techniques, background checks and
screenings available to assist business owners, supervisors, and human
resource personnel to identify and hire the right person. The session
will be Wednesday, November 16, at 1382 S. Woodland Boulevard, DeLand

VMA HONORS CAPO FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT MANUFACTURING AWARD
– Rick Banker, president and co-founder of Capo, Inc., Ormond Beach, was
awarded the Volusia Manufacturer’s Association’s Hall of Fame “Manny”
Award for Lifetime Achievement for excellence in manufacturing. Capo,
Inc. has set a standard for its industry and has been home to hundreds
of employees since its founding more than 25 years ago. Recognition also
was given to Boston Whaler’s Product Promotion group for “Best
Practices.”
AGRICULTURE STILL STRONG IN FLORIDA – Florida remains
the nation’s top producer of citrus, accounting for more than 74 percent
of the annual U.S. production. And, Florida accounts for more than 45
percent of the world’s production of grapefruit and 18.5 percent of the
global production of oranges. Florida’s citrus growers cultivate more
than 103 million trees on 796,540 acres. Florida produces more than 1.2
billion gallons of orange juice annually.
