COMMUTER RAIL WORKSHOPS – The next set of land-use work sessions for the Central Florida Commuter Rail Station development in Volusia County will be Wednesday, March 19. The workshops will discuss transit-oriented land-use strategies for the proposed DeBary and DeLand area commuter rail stations. The DeLand station session is from 2 - 4:30 p.m. at the TCK Administration Building, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand. The DeBary workshop is from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the Florence Little Town Hall, 12 Colomba Road in DeBary.

MANUFACTURING SITE NEEDED – Industrially zoned land suitable for a 150,000-square-foot building is still needed in southwest Volusia County. FORECLOSURE PREVENTION WORKSHOP – A free workshop is being sponsored by Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida from 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday, March 20, at Bethune-Cookman University. Topics include options for homeowners currently in default, refinancing options for those not yet delinquent, options for those with adjustable rate mortgages, advice for those who have received a foreclosure summons, bankruptcy as an option and more. DOWN ON THE FARM – Florida's economy often is seen as mostly tourism. But, agriculture, perhaps the oldest sector of Florida's economy, is still thriving and now contributes more than $100 billion a year to the state, according to a new study by the University of Florida. Growing steadily at about 4 percent annually, it has kept pace with the state's economy in recent years, providing important economic stability.

SELL TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has launched a new, free online course – "Business Opportunities: A Guide to Winning Federal Government Contracts." The instructional, self-paced guide is easy to follow and available on SBA's Web site at www.sba.gov/training. From the SBA's training site, select the first course listed under “Government Contracting.” The course is designed to show small businesses how to tap into the $400 billion federal market.
