THERAPEUTIC DISCOVERY GRANTS – The U.S. Department of the
Treasury announced the guidelines for applying for the new Therapeutic
Discovery Project Program created by the Affordable Care Act. The
program will provide tax credits and grants to small firms that show
significant potential to produce new and cost-saving therapies, support
good jobs and increase U.S. competitiveness. This new tax credit will
help advance research to find life-saving treatments and help U.S.
companies lead the way in innovative medical discoveries. For more

REGULATIONS ISSUED FOR NEW PATIENT'S BILL OF RIGHTS – The
Departments of Health and Human Resources, Labor and Treasury issued
interim final regulations to implement a new “Patient’s Bill of Rights”
under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The regulations
outline several insurance market changes effective September 2010. Visit

“i6 CHALLENGE” – The U.S. Department of Commerce's Office of
Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Administration
(EDA) recently announced a new $12 million innovation competition
program to be run in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health
(NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dubbed the “i6
Challenge,” EDA will award up to $1 million each to six teams with the
most innovative ideas to drive technology commercialization and
entrepreneurship. Application deadline is July 15. For more information,

FLORIDA NATION’S LEADER IN SALES OF CUT CULTIVATED GREENS –
Florida sales of cut greens in 2009 totaled $55.7 million, 75 percent of
the value for cut greens sold in the U.S. in 2009. The 2009 value of
sales was 19 percent below the 2008 value of $69.1 million. Leatherleaf
ferns represented $29.1 million of the 2009 total compared to $33
million in 2008. Sales of other cut greens totaled $26.6 million, down
26 percent from the $36.1 million sold in 2008. Pierson, Florida is the
heart of the “Fern Capital of the World.” Volusia County is one of the
largest exporters of ferns in the world.
FIFTH ANNUAL "FARM TO FUEL" SUMMIT AUG. 11 IN ORLANDO – The 2010
Farm to Fuel summit will be held from Aug. 11-13 at the Rosen Shingle
Creek in Orlando. The summit will bring together hundreds of industry
leaders in agriculture, energy, academia and government who want to make
Florida a leader in the production of renewable energy. Highlights of
