The chart shows the unemployment rate trend for Volusia County, Florida, and the US from January 2020 to present. After the impact of COVID and an initial rate of 15.1%, Volusia County's unemployment rate had a steady decrease throughout 2021 and 2022. The current rate was 3.6% as of Feb. 2024 and has consistently been lower than the national unemployment rate. Florida's unemployment rate is 3.1% and the US is 4.2%.

Health Care and Social Assistance – 31,863, Leisure and Hospitality – 30,012, Retail Trade – 28,049, Professional and Business Services – 19,810, Educational Services – 14,948, Construction – 12,418, Manufacturing – 12,169, Public Administration – 9,291, Financial Activities – 8,221, Transportation, Warehousing and Utilities – 5,681, Other Services – 5,264, Wholesale Trade – 4,599, Natural Resources and Mining – 1,389, and Information – 1,314. The quarterly average total employment was 185,436 which is a 3.4% increase over the same period last year in the 2nd quarter of 2022.

Volusia County available total workforce has surpassed pre-pandemic levels to a record level of approximately 266,061 in 2022.

Volusia County wages are reasonable and able to support a quality of life that continues to draw people to our communities.

The chart shows Volusia County’s average annual wage trend from 2012 to 2021. Wages increased slightly from 2012 to 2014 and have increased steadily since 2014. 2014 wage was $34,696. 2015 was $35,904. 2016 was $36,558. 2017 was $37,740. 2018 was $38,760. 2019 was $40,472. 2020 was $43,673. The 2021 average wage of $46,385 increased 6.2% from 2020.
